Behind the player means you don't see the awkward rotation points. My solution: my player's left arm is a magic energy arm that is its own sprite that I can rotate around behind the player. Problem: Now I've figured out that the reason megaman games force you to shoot horizontally only is because it would be impossible to animate full arm rotation in pixel art. If you played any of the megaman X games, my character is essentially X and Zero merged into one character. Primarily, the player can shoot bullets in any direction. My design works pretty well in Unity with basic placeholder shapes but when I started thinking about how it would look visually, several issues started popping up. So I'm working on a side scrolling action platformer in the vein of megaman as a solo dev.
